The Alaskan Klee Kai breed was only developed in the 1970s, making it one of the newer breeds. Linda Spurlin from Alaska created this breed by crossing an Alaskan Husky with a smaller breed.
The name 'Klee Kai' comes from an Athabaskan word meaning 'small dog.' Despite their striking resemblance to the much larger Siberian Husky, these dogs are much smaller - not exceeding 17 inches in height.
