The Biewer Terrier is a fairly new breed, established only in the 1980s in Germany by a Yorkie-breeding couple, Werner and Gertrud Biewer.

The breed started as a happy accident when a Yorkshire Terrier pair owned by the Biewers produced a puppy with an unusual white, blue, and gold coat, which was different from the traditional blue and tan of Yorkshire terriers.

The first dog of this breed, named Schneeflöckchen von Friedheck, was so treasured by the Biewers that they decided to officially begin a separate breed line.

Unlike Yorkies, Biewer Terriers have a unique three-color coat which consists of blue (black), white, and tan, and is silky to the touch.

Despite their compact size, Biewer Terriers have a lively and adventurous spirit - they are known for their agility and they quickly excel in obedience and agility training.
