The Vizsla dog breed is one of the oldest known breeds in the world, originating from the Magyar tribe in Hungary over a thousand years ago.

Not only are Vizslas exceptional hunting dogs, they are also known as "Velcro Vizslas" due to their intense loyalty and desire to be close to their human companions.

During World War II, the Vizsla was on the brink of extinction as the Soviet Union invaded Hungary. It is thanks to a few dedicated breeders who smuggled Vizslas into other countries that the breed survived.

They are a highly active and versatile breed. In addition to hunting and retrieving, Vizslas were also used in various tasks such as tracking, pointing, and even search and rescue!

Vizslas are so intelligent that they were used as messenger dogs during wars. They would carry messages from one location to another in dangerous war zones.

The first Vizsla to come to America, Sari, also became the first Vizsla champion in the United States, topping off her impressive career by winning Best of Breed at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Vizslas are known for their short, thin coat, which requires very little grooming. However, this also means they get cold easily and are not really made for harsh weather conditions.

One of the most famous Vizslas is "Bizsók" who starred alongside Jessica Biel and Jamie Foxx in the war film 'Stealth' because of his impressive ability to jump over 6 feet high from a sitting position.

Surprisingly for such active dogs, Vizslas have webbed feet, an attribute that makes them remarkably good swimmers. This comes in handy when they're on the hunt and need to retrieve game from water.
