Samoyeds are natural charmers brimming with kindness and will fit right in with active families who love outdoor adventures.

Their plush, double coat takes a bit of pampering. Regular grooming keeps them looking their best and feeling comfortable. Plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and quality time spent with you will keep your Samoyed happy and healthy.

Be prepared to make room in your heart (and on your sofa), as these gentle giants love cuddling as much as they love running around. They truly embody the saying "A house is not a home without a little bit of fur and a whole lot of love."

Interesting Facts

1

Samoyeds originate from Siberia where they were bred by the Samoyedic people for herding reindeer, pulling sleds, and keeping their owners warm during the cold nights. These versatile dogs have maintained these skills throughout centuries, making them remarkable working dogs even today.

2

Incredibly friendly, Samoyeds are nicknamed 'Smiling Sams' for their unique mouth shape that looks like a constant smile! This friendly appearance accurately represents their gentle, non-aggressive nature.

3

Samoyeds have a remarkable double-layer coat, helping them stay warm in the harsh cold of Siberia. Much like human hair, the strands grow until they die and need a barber (or groomer) to maintain. During shedding season, they create so-called "Samo Fluff", which some crafty owners spin into wool and knit into sweaters.

4

Samoyeds can tend to be quite vocal and "talkative." They don't just bark, they make a wide range of sounds to communicate including howls, barks, grunts, and even a unique sound called "Samo speak" which is a series of expressive vocal noises.

5

Samoyeds played crucial roles in polar expeditions, including those led by explorers Roald Amundsen and Fridtjof Nansen, helping to pull sleds across the frozen Antarctic and Arctic landscapes.

6

Developed by the Nenets (Samoyede) people of Siberia, Samoyeds herded reindeer, pulled sledges, and slept with families to share lifesaving warmth.

7

Signature 'Sammy smile' with black lips curving upward helps prevent drool icicles and protects facial skin in brutal Arctic winds.

8

Their dense, double coat repels dirt and insulates superbly; historically, shed undercoat was spun into warm yarn nicknamed 'Samoyed wool'.

9

Introduced to the West via Arctic expeditions; Queen Alexandra helped popularize the breed in Britain, establishing early kennels in the late 1800s.

10

In freezing weather, Samoyeds curl their plumed tails over their noses to warm incoming air—a clever built-in scarf from evolution.
